BIFMA: The Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association
Both firms have joined together to set quality standards assuring durability
and safety of office furniture.
- Provides manufacturers and customers with a common way to evaluate safety,
durability and structural adequacy (independent of construction materials)
- Standards define the specific tests, laboratory equipment to be used, the
conditions of test, and the minimum acceptance levels to be used in evaluating
products
- Tests for SEATING include scope, definitions, general sections and tests for:
Back Pull, Unit Base, Swivel Cycling, Tilt Mechanism, Seating Impact, Front and Rear
Stability, Arm Strength, Back Durability, Caster/Chair Base Durability, Footring
Durability and Tablet Arm Tests
- Standards are reviewed every five years according to guidelines established by
the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
