Get the Right Fit
Take Our 4-Step Test Drive!
4 Steps to Determine if Your Chair is the Right "Fit":
1. Before you sit:
- Stand facing the chair
- The highest point of the seat should be just below your kneecap
- Adjust the chair accordingly until this height is achieved
2. Once you're seated:
- Thighs should be parallel to the floor
- Feet should be resting comfortably on the floor (or a footrest, if necessary)
- There should be at least a 0.5" clearance between the front edge of the seat pan and the knees
- Seat pan should be at least 1" wider than hips and thighs
- Elbows resting on armrests should be the same height as the desk or work surface and close to the body
- Shoulders should be relaxed (not shrugging)
- Backrest should support entire back – both lumbar and thoracic spines – at all times
- Seat pan should provide even support, with little or no pressure points
3. Now look DOWN at the base:
- Look for chairs with at least 5 casters
- Provides stability
- Minimizes chance of tipping
4. Test the controls:
- All adjustable controls should be easy-to-understand and use
- Also make sure they'll be reachable from a seated position
