BIFMA: The Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association
Both firms have joined together to set quality standards assuring durability
and safety of office furniture.
- Provides manufacturers and customers with a common way to evaluate safety, durability and structural adequacy (independent of construction materials).
- Standards define the specific tests, laboratory equipment to be used, the conditions of test, and the minimum acceptance levels to be used in evaluating products.
- Tests for DESKING products include: Scope, Definitions, General Sections and Tests for: Top Loading, Load Ease, Lock Mechanism, Drawer or Roll-Out Shelf Cycle, Out Stop, Rebound, Racking, Caster Durability for Mobile Pedestals, Leg Strength, Horizontal and Vertical Adjustment, Stability, Cycle Testing for Receding Doors, Interlock, Drop Test for Receding Door, Unit Drop, and Table tests.
- Standards are reviewed every five years according to guidelines established by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
